Welcome to Twila Reid School!

Welcome back Reid Rams! My name is Mrs. Erin Helenihi and I'm very excited to serve as the Reid School principal for the 2016-17 school year. I have 16 years of experience in education that spans grades K-8; the majority of my experience has been at the elementary level. I left a neighboring district, where I was serving as a site administrator to join the Savanna family as an Intervention Coordinator.  I have had the wonderful opportunity to learn about the Savanna School District, and specifically Reid Elementary, last year before stepping in as Reid School Principal.  I’m excited to serve as an educational leader to your son/daughter’s school and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success.

Along with staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established at Reid School by building strong relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners.  We will continue to focus on 21st Century skills, fostering a nurturing safe environment for children, promoting the strong PBIS program already in place, using data to inform instruction, growing in our development of Common Core Standards, and providing exciting and challenging opportunities for all students.

I anticipate a successful year as our entire Reid staff will work together to support the academic, social, and emotional growth of your child at Twila Reid Elementary School.

As Principal, my door will always be open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in or call to make an appointment to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help make your child’s educational experience at Reid School the best it can be!

At Twila Reid School we are excited and ready for the 2016-17 school year to begin!

About Twila Reid School

Twila Reid School is in the Savanna School District which encompasses parts of the cities of Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress and Stanton. Approximately 700 students attend Twila Reid School. The staff at Reid School is composed of 28 regular education teachers, a special education resource teacher, and speech therapist, as well as psychologist, counseling, and nursing services. All of the teachers at Twila Reid School are fully credentialed by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Support services at the school include clerical, custodial and maintenance, and special funded school based coordinated program instructional assistants. Student support is also maintained through the Student Intervention Team, a group of teachers who meet to help parents and other teachers with students who may not be progressing academically, socially, or behaviorally.

Twila Reid staff members attend inservices and workshops on a regular basis to keep current on exemplary teaching strategies, new curricula, and methods to best assist students in meeting grade-level standards. Reid School's strong academic program ensures that the state and district standards are taught in a comprehensive manner. Students participate in a variety of assessments including District benchmark assessments; teacher and publisher assessments; as well as the State Testing and Reporting (STAR) program which includes the SBAC, California Standards Test in Science for fifth grade students, Physical Fitness Testing for fifth grade students, and the California English Language Development Test (CELDT) for second-language learners.

The PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is an integral part of the school’s support services through its work as parent volunteers, as program fund-raisers, and as a school-parent communication resource.
